Instructor - Leanne Hodsdon

My Yoga journey began in Midrand, in 2001, when a friend asked me to join her for a class at a private Yoga studio. After the studio closed down, I attended group classes at the local Virgin Active clubs. One of the instructors asked if I had ever considered teaching Yoga. So, in 2010 a whole new world opened to me at Young's Yoga Institute (YYI). My training took longer than expected, but I persevered, passed my exams and have been teaching Yoga since September 2014. I still teach for Virgin Active and continue my training with them and with Young’s Yoga Institute (whose teachings are based on BKS Iyengar’s principles).
I have benefitted in so many ways by making Yoga part of my life, from dealing with my mental health issues, improving my posture, lifestyle and keeping fit and flexible all these years later.
I believe there are many misconceptions in Western society about what Yoga is and who practises it, especially with the influence, initially of the film industry and nowadays social media. The asanas/postures practised are but one step/"limb" of eight, according to Patanjali's "Yoga Sutras", in working toward a blissful state in this human journey called "Life". It is not about being a certain shape, having a certain fitness level or getting our bodies into amazing shapes.
Our classes are about bringing awareness to our being (physically, emotionally, mentally and/or spiritually) wherever you are at, striving to "live in the moment" on a journey to improve our lifestyle in whatever form that might take.
